Computer DIY - Thermal paste posted in the Hardware forums; The CPU has paste already applied? Never seen that before, and it should be applied to the heatsink. Is the CPU brand new?...

The CPU has paste already applied? Never seen that before, and it should be applied to the heatsink. Is the CPU brand new?

I'm with upgrader on this; never heard of a CPU that came with heatsink compound applied from the factory. To my experience it's always on the heatsink if one is supplied with the CPU.

Also, using 2 compounds together sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

ahh! i must have gotten my information mixed up...apologies

didnt mean to ignore you before upgrader....yes the CPU is new and its meant to be delivered tomorrow

The CPU won't have thermal paste already applied. The heatsink and fan that comes with it (if you bought retail version) will have thermal paste applied but you will be using the Hyper TX2 instead of that. What is making you think the CPU will already have thermal paste applied?
