Hello everyone, i've recently acquired a new PC here. It's a PC I built in my networking class and well.. it was free pretty much. It runs fairly solid and i'd like to use it for some light gaming, but I do want it to run very fast and responsive.

However it only has 256MB of RAM and I do want to upgrade to 2GB or possibly 4GB but i'm not sure if my motherboard could handle that or if it's even worth it with the processor I have. The processor is the same speed as my laptop and that can run some games fairly well.

So basically i'm wondering should I just sell the whole computer and invest in a better processor and overall parts, or would upgrading the RAM be sufficient?

It said it couldn't find an exact match but it gave me this:

Hi,this means your mainboard has 2 slots one is used one is empty.

You can possible put in there up to 8 gig RAM.But looking at your mainboard specs I think that scanner is wrong.

You maybe be able to leave the 256 in there however some mainboards like matching sized sticks.

I would buy a 2 gig stick RAM remove the 256 and you then have a free slot to fit more RAM in the future.

I agree I would sell.SDRAM 184 pin is expencive compared to DD2.

I guess i'll be building a new comp in the $500-$600 budget then and i'm gonna try to build it around this processor. Any tips?
