Default replacing motherboard, cpu, and memory

hi, i have an old abit kr7 with amd athlon with 2x 256 ram sticks. i use an old nvidia gpu that i dont care to replace and professional audio card for recording audio that i also want to keep. i only need the pc to work as an audio recording station. im on an almost nothing budget lol. are there any cheap motherboard, cpu, and memory combos that you suggest for audio recording. the only thing the old setup lacked was ram and cpu speed. oh and i have 2 ide hdds with win 2000 installed. any words of wisdom or suggertions will be appreciated. thanks

You will possibly need to reinstall the Operating System. When you switch a motherboard on a Microsoft operating it makes you need to reinstall. Dang Bill

Hey citizen! If your card is AGP (in the brown slot) then you're pretty much out of luck, new motherboards generally don't have AGP slots anymore.
Instead of replacing your motherboard you can upgrade your ram, your board supports up to 3gb ram (though it has four slots...I don't understand that logic...)
What you might do is get 4 512mb sticks for 2gb ram, that should be plenty.
I can link some if you're interested

zach, the reason im replacing the mb is because its giving me trouble. a few of the ram slots dont even work. the thing is just full of dust and unstable. sometimes it doesnt even find my 2 hdd. i dont have my windows cd or any of my drivers with me so it will suck if i have to reinstall everything. anyway, thanks guys, ill write down some of these suggestions. i very much appriciate your expertise.

If you replace the motherboard you will have to reinstall everything, period. There's no way around that fact, unless you replace with an identical motherboard/processor.
I looked at newegg and zinglebarb's right, there are new motherboards with AGP slots.
Though I wouldn't call it new though, I found you this one, fairly cheap and socket A so you can reuse your old processor (and maybe save yourself from reinstalling Windows, I'm not too sure...)

Newegg.com - PC CHIPS M848A (V5.0) 462(A) SiS 746FX ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards
Or for more upgradability options in the future, there's this one, which features AGP & PCI-E as well as DDR & DDR2 slots
Newegg.com - ASRock 4CoreDual-SATA2 LGA 775 VIA PT880 Pro/PT880 Ultra ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

Hey there AW!
The user just wants a new motherboard, processor, & ram.
They'd like to keep everything else, including their AGP video card & PCI soundcard
As for Vista, yuck, I'd rather get XP (or if needed by citizen, 2000) on ebay
...I'm anti-vista btw...
