AHA!! Recovery discs... dont get me started on those things... thats the reason im on PCHF as it is.... My PC came with a recovery disc... i used it once... it was useless, broke everything, i had to take it to the pc shop in town for data recovery, format and reinstall... i later found out it was a known problem with advent discs and if you paid them summat like £50 they would send out a disc that actually worked!! GRRR

That's what I mean...they sell you a PC-- and they know very well that PC's have errors eventually. I don't know anyone who owns a computer that has NOT had to reinstall Windows... at least once.
Then they give you a restore disc-- that cannot do non-destructive recovery. So you have to wipe and start over completely-- lose all those valuable pics/music files... etc.
Should you backup your stuff?? Of course you should... do most people do it that way?? Uh-uh.
At least you should be able to make a last-ditch attempt to save your data.
That really grinds my gears...

Ahhh... Backups.. a lot of people, me included, find out the hard way about how important it is to keep regular backups of everything... now i have cd`s, dvd`s, flash drives and an external hard drive... just in case

could you not buy the 5000 black edition cpu with unlocked multiplier AMD Black Edition Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Socket AM2 2.6GHz Energy Efficient L2 1MB (2x512KB) Retail Boxed Processor - Note does not include heatsink or fan - Ebuyer

Also I would push you towards Western digital hdd over Maxtor any day of the week

Ok may I point out to you the black edition is 65 nm energy efficient and the 5600 is 90nm . That alone should change your mind
