Default removed firewire

hi everyone; I had to take out my firewire so I could fit more fans into my PC. after doing ths though I lost my internet connection. i thought firewire was used strictly for transferring data from PC to PC using a firewire connection and now i find out it governs my internet.

thanks for any answers

Welcome to the site

How do you connect to the Internet? Wireless or cabled from your PC? Also, is the card that connects to the 'net from your PC anywhere near the card slot that you recently removed?

thanks for he welcome. I'm on a three person wirless network, i have a usb dongle type thing that picks up the signal from my linksys router downstairs. i dont use a card or anything like that. it was literally just a firewire wire connection from the motherboard leading to a firewire port. since I've had my PC (well over a year) I've never used firewire so I dont understand how this has happened. do people actually use this for networking?
