that is a myth. You will not be able to run crossfire, but you can use an ATi card in any PCIe 16x compatible motherboard. same as you can use ATi in Intel boards, NVidia card work in AMD, ATi, Intel based boards and so on. There is no relationship between the graphics card maker and the motherboard chipset maker.
