Default [Answered] Replacing cd/dvd drives

Hello, i`ve got a CD/RW drive and a DVD ROM drive on my PC, both internal. I have a LITEON LH-20A1P487C DVD/CD writer that i`d like to replace them both with.

My DVD drive is in the top bay, the CD drive is in the bay below.

So how do i go about replacing them?

If i remove both my drives and install the new one, how can i install the drivers off the CD if i dont have a working CD drive??

Or would i be better putting the new drive in the top bay, leave the old cd drive in til i`ve installed the drivers then remove it??

Much confusion!!

for what its worth, i would keep the older cd/writer, saves the annoying task of having to eject and insert a blank cd..use the old drive to read and a blank cd in the new drive..that way you can just sit back and relax till its done. that said, just remove the old dvd drive ...is your old dvd drive a primary or secondary ..whichever it is, set the pin in the back the same way...remove old , insert new, plug up the ribbon, power supply cord and power up, you can then just flash the drive from the liteon website..or an install cd if you have one...

All done, and after all that worry windows recognised it straight away and didnt ask to install any drivers. I ended up havin a good clear out while i had the case open, ditched both optical drives cos there old and a bit minging where stuffs been spilled over the years and removed the faulty card reader. Only trouble is now windows is asking for reactivation cos its detected too many hardware changes!!

Edit:- Had to phone microsoft for re-activation numbers, all sorted, can be marked answered
