Default [Answered] intel 965 and 945

hi there,
i currently own an intel 945gm and near a month or two ago,the newer version of the intel graphics card has come out,i was wondering if it was possible for me to swap my intel 945gm with the 965 that i can buy?is that possible?because i do know that the 945 is an integrated chipset and is stuck on the motherboard.will there be a way because they are both intel or something, maybe sam size etc?

Hello Mhd4365,

Both of those numbers are referring to an Intel motherboard chipset. You can't switch chipsets if you want the 965, you'd have to get a motherboard with that chipset.

If you want better video performance, you'll need to add a third party video card.

Hope that helps!

it wont make a difference. the i945 and i965 chipsets, both have the sucky Intel GMA950. it sucks for gaming. in order to get a Intel X3000 or one of the newer ones, you would have to buy a G33, or P35 based board. wait a laptop? you cant buy laptop motherboards as far as i know...

Yes, since you have a laptop, you are stuck with it. Laptops are pretty much impossible to upgrade and typically have pitiful video adapters.

For future reference, don't buy a laptop if you are using it for gaming. Unless you have thousands of dollars to spend. Laptop graphics are built into the motherboard and you can't switch out the graphics card or the motherboard, or even add a graphics card.
