Default I inherited a bunch of PC bits.

But I don't know too well what I'm doing with it. I've deconstruced a few PCs before, but building is obviosuly alot harder.

There's some nice bits and bobs there, motherboards, processors. cases, a bag full of RAM etc/

A few very basic things...

Will most of the stuff be plug in and go? I know I have no discs or anything with it.
Is there an easy way to discern which stuff is useful, and what's compatible with what?
And what would the best sites be to a beginning builder like me.

Thanks!

Hi HunterLionheart,

The memory/cpu is all plug and play - however, video cards, motherboard, sound cards, network cards, any expansion cards really - will need drives, which can be downloaded off the internet.

If you let us know the specs of the the CPU/Motherboard and memory, we'll be able to tell you if they go together or not.

Good question

The motherboard will have the model written in big white letters...the CPU with have the model written ontop of the die (under the fan if it's attached)

The memory should have stickers that tell you type of memory, and speed.

There are serial numbers on the processor chips ( I know one is an Athalon 64, and there are a couple of Athalon 2400s, if I'm reading right) The motherboards0 I don't see anything in big letters- well nothng that looks like more than a code anyway

Some of the RAM has stickers, some doesn't.

Ok,so you have an Athlon 64 processor...which narrows it down, but could be anything from a sempron, to an AM...so not alot of narrowing down really...

Can you post everything you can read on both that one CPU and the motherboard?
Anything on the motherboard that is bigger letters than the majority of it (code or not).
