Okay; heres the deal. The other day I took off the case of the computer to clean the filter that is on the
front of the case that blocks lint from the two fans that cool the drive bays. I cleaned it & also decided to
clean the heatsink so I took it completly off & the chip stuck to the heatsink, pulling it out stuck to the Heatsink without
moving the little silver bar that you are supposed to turn up before taking the processor out.
This should help:

Okay; so I take the heatsink loose and find out the
CPU had stuck to the heatsink & when it came off it pulled
the processor out with it improperly.
I pulled all pci/HD/etc etc. until all parts except
cpu was intact. - No beeps - No post - no video. Decided it
was either processor or maybe memory (tho unlikely memory since processor alone should of beeped. Checked PC
Speaker & it is fine.) Went and bought a P4 512/800 used (but tested first) & same thing. I can only imagine it
must be the MB damaged during ripping out processor. No pins bent on either processor.
I don't wish to spend money on the newer technology since I realize a properly built older box will sometimes
outperform a newer. (My P4 1.7Ghz could play Might and Magic Dark Messiah which min req. was a 2.6Ghz P4 rec. 3.2Ghz
with only minimal lags during full video interludes)
So, I trace it to MB. I am seeking a MB that can accomodate all my stuff. I looked all over & even tried to
find a dual processor board for my two P4's (doesn't exist unless you got xeons), & read many things; was
interested in an FIC board that was perfect with 5 pci slots & all the frills; but only 400FSB.

Everything about it is perfect except: only 400FSB when I bought an 512/800FSB Chip. Both processor and MB
were very expensive when they were 'in style'. ... but really really cheap now.
A: I want a board that is expandable like that one; B: I heard Gigabyte & ASUS were far supperior to any
other board; and C: I would like one that will take PC-2100 for my old 512MB & another 512-2GB PC-2700 +.
I tried to find a board but I don't know if DDR400 has anything to do with PC-****. If I must I will just buy
the newer memory since you can get 2GB for 99$.
Anyhow, That is my situation; I hope some super tech can answer this for me as I too am very intel. on
computers (since the Timex Sinclair 1000 - 2KB memory upgradable to 16KB; used a cassette player to record
programs) ... but I have been so happy with my old system only upgrading the DVD writer & video card ... that
I have not gotten too much into the newest stuff tho I do understand alot of it now.
So... I guess I am just wondering what MB I should get. I like ATX boards with two IDE slots; at least 4 PCI;
expandable that can accomodate what I have. GigaBytes site has many many many boards but difficult since you can't enter in the super tech details.
Any help for anything I have said would be great. I have done my best to be detailed as possible.
Thanks in advance.
