Hi,
I try to access safe mode, it starts up in safe mode but doesnt even finish booting completely before it just restarts normally. This happens every time. It starts normally in normal mode. Can any one please help?
Start XP, in "normal" mode. Then click Start > Run > type msconfig and hit enter.
Under the General Tab, select "Diagnostic startup", and in the boot.ini tab select "Safeboot". Now restart, you should automatically start in Safe mode (no need to press F8 and then select safe mode) and see if you can boot correctly in Safe mode.
Sounds like corruption in the registry-- strange that it will boot normal mode --and not safe though.
Safe mode is actually still Windows... it just loads only the very basic drivers to run basic tasks.
I would probably suggest a repair install... if windows boots normally it probably won't run long.
If you can boot into normal mode again backup critical files first to be safest-- though I have never lost anything going this route
