Hi,

1) Really the difference between Intel and AMD are the company names. Both are good in my opinion. The only things to watch out for are the L2 cache sizes. Intel tends to have more L2 cache than AMD and thats why some prefer Intel. You want minimum 512 Kb or L2 cache on your processor. I would recommend at least 1 Mb and Dual Core or even Quad Core. But due to budget that's not an option for some people. Make sure that your motherboard and cpu have the same socket or slot type. That is very important.

2) Again, this depends and is all of your own preference. My opinion is if you want a little cheaper then go with AMD but if you are going for high performance and have the budget to spend go with Intel Core 2 Duo.

3) If you are buying individual parts from online stores the shipping costs arer going to be up there however if you want to Newegg.com - Buy Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more! is pretty good. You may also want to check around different sites or use services such as pricegrabber to get the cheapest out there.

Also, if you don't know a lot about computers, I recommend just going to Find a Notebook, Desktop, Server, Printer, Software, Service, Monitor or TV at Dell. or HP United States - Computers, Laptops, Servers, Printers & more and buying one from there. It will probably be somewhat cheaper too because htey buy their parts in bulk and get discounts so they can sell their computers for less. You have to know what your doing if you are building your own computer because if you get a SATA 2 hard drive and the board you bought doesn't support SATA, your in some trouble. There are more factors than that too such as fans and heatsinks being installed properly and being the correct size, etc.

Hope this helps,
Adam

Hello, and welcome,,

1) well honestly i can say that i have never used an amd, but i will say that both companies are very good, but at the moment, intel has the faster cpus, while amd has the best bang for the buck, but if you are ever considering overclocking on this computer, even a way into the future, then intel (core 2 duo) is the way to go, they OC like mad. but in the way of value, amd is leading in the cheap end, but not by much at all. and the new e4000s from intel are very good, i have one, as for the L2 cache, definately over 512kb like eagle said, but i dont think it makes that much difference, when i OC my 4400 to 6700 levels, even though mine has half as much cache it still goes just as fast, at this point in time the cache will affect very few things at all, infact the only thing with a noticable drop due to cache is super pi, but i doubt that you will for some reason need to get 32million digits of pi asap any time soon

2)In this section i can say the last 3 are good companies, i dont know about gateway, they dont operate over here in oz. but if you want this pc for gaming or anything that will require 3d power, then order by your own specs, they generally come with generic integrated video, some of the more expensive ones come with dedicated video, but from my experiences with friends PCs, up until the midrange they dont

3)I cant vouch for it personally, as i live in Oz and all, but from everything i read on the internet it seems that Newegg is a well known site of most american pc enthusiasts. also if you want a custon order pc, why dont you try looking at some local pc shops, its places like these that i get all my stuff from, good luck with youre new system, be sure to let us know of youre final decision
