Pending: Missing CD/DVD Drive

Hello, Need help with my missing cd/dvd drives and help with running devcon
I have a Gateway M-1625 laptop running Vista Home Premium. A few weeks ago the cd / DVD drive suddenly vanished even the icon in the system devices box

The microsoft fix to automatically delete the upper and lower filters did not help.
For some reason I have problems with devcon. It opens a new window and that window closes as soon as it is done. I tried devcon stack * > t.txt. But it still opens a new window and t.txt is empty.
I d have linux on my machine and that is able to see the cd rom.

Do you have any CD\DVD burning software installed such as Roxio, Nero, etc? I had a problem like this a while back and uninstalling that and then rebooting brought the drives back and then I could reinstall the burning software again without problem.

My computer does not show the cd/dvd drive? but seen in bios? what can i do to solve this problem? plzzzz help me.
