Solved: Can Not Access Data CD's/DVD's

Hi All,

Please whoever can help me would be greatly apprecatied in my life.

I can no longer seem to access Data cd's or data Dvd's. however I can only seem to read DVD Films on my ACER Aspire which has a pioneer DVD drive.

its weird.. the software comes back fine on device manager, I have done countless antivirus programs, registry cleaners and still no joy. the DVD drive is fine as I found out yesterday when I wanted to format the computer and i went on to start the process. that it reads the windows Vista installation disc (which is DVD Data) fine!!!!!!

But I cancelled the operation as I thought someone out there must have gone through this problem and rectifyed it..

please help as I have tonnes of data on the C: drive and would not want to lose it all or take time to shift it across to another hard drive and start allover.

Did you recently do anything as far as updating any drivers for the drive?

When you go into Device Manager, is there a yellow "?" next to name of the drive?

Also, you say that you wanted to format your HDD, but then you say that you didn't want to lose your data. Formatting the HDD would have erased everything. What problem did you encounter that you ended up canceling the process?

Hi,

Its ok I have formatted the PC now. moved all information to another hard drive and started again.

FYI however the issue was that CD player did not read audio CD normal CD or Data DVD's whilst in Windows Vista.

When I started the computer with a Windows Vista (DVD) it operated and requested me to reinstall/format etc. hence why I cancelled and thought it was just windows vista that has the issue and not a hardware problem.

Device Manager, read fine but I reinstalled drivers to be safe and that did not work. no there was not a question mark against anything in device manager either.

I only assumed that maybe Nero or Alcohol 120% did this but the computer was working and ripping cd.. the sudden stop is a mystery..

I have resolved the issue now, thank for you help anyway

btw, I have heard of other issues with Alcohol 120%. Seems like I solved a simliar issue within the past few months.
