Default Missing DVD Drives (Fixes do not work)

Hello to those reading.

My two DVD drives, a DVD rom and DVD R, have mysteriously vanished from my computer. I have gone through the XP_CD-DVD-Fix.exe and a similar fix from the Microsoft help site. I have run CCleaner to make sure nothing was causing an issue there and have run my virus scan (AVG free edition) to ensure nothing hiding. I have also reinstalled my motherboard driver to see if that would fix it.

I believe I know where the problem lies here, but not sure how to fix it. My device manager is registering a code 12, not enough resources for my IDE channels, now for the catch. I am registering two "Primary IDE Channel" and two "Secondary IDE Channel" devices. It is also registering two "NVIDIA nForce 430/410 Serial ATA Controller" and two "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller". Something about all the duplicates seems odd, but maybe that is just me. All four of the IDE Channel devices have the "Code 12 This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use." problems.

My Specs:
Intel Core2 Quad Q6600
Asus P5N-E SLi
2 GB Ram
Geforce 8800 GTX
2 500gb Sata hard drives (non raid)

Other things I have tried:
Uninstalling doubling occurences of IDE Channels, but windows finds all 4 again.
Uninstalling IDE Channels and main board drivers. On restart all IDE channels return.

So in the end, I am at a loss and really don't feel like running a full reformat . Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Hello & Welcome to PCHF, Postaltape!

We've got a great community of techs & members here - all very talented with both Security & tech knowledge. Glad to have you join us.

I'm not certain that this tip will be useful for you or not. Your issue is a bit different than what I used this information to repair. However, it may be worth a glance...

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) Barugon’s Cave (^_^)

Thanks for the reply, I tried the website, but still no dice.

I looked deeper into the conflicting resources, and both Channels are using the same resources (hence the conflict). Troubleshooter suggested changing the resources manually...but that isn't possible for some reason.

I've found this bit of info - perhaps it will be of use

This is an ordinary IRQ layout

IRQ0 System Timer
IRQ1 Keyboard
IRQ2 Interrupt Controller
IRQ3 COM 2
IRQ4 COM 1
IRQ5 *Free* (SBlaster)
IRQ6 Floppy Controller
IRQ7 Printer Port
IRQ8 CMOS/Real time clock
IRQ9 *Free*
IRQ10 *Free*
IRQ11 *Free*
IRQ12 PS/2 Mouse
IRQ13 FPU
IRQ14 Primary IDE Controller
IRQ15 Secondary IDE Controller

But with your mainboard you'll need further IRQ's for (Without adding anything)

USB - SATA - VGA - Sound - NIC.

So I would strongly suggest that you make sure that you have the flashed latest BIOS and enable ACPI + (ACPI 2.0 if avail) in the BIOS and then do a reinstall or you might be lucky to manually change the driver in "device manager" under "computer" from "APM Single Processor PC" to "ACPI Single Processor PC" and reboot once it's required - your system should then find all the hardware again and you'll be okay.

**********************

and at the very bottom of this URL - the link is from Gateway, not sure why it shows with Question Marks ???????????????????

How is APM different from ACPI?

Have you resolved your issue?
Have you tried the upper and lower filters fix on the microsoft website?

Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs
