Default Need help! :( pc wont recognsie cd writer :(
Hi I have just bought a new pc and it has vista and a sata motherboard. I am trying to install my cd writer from my previous pc and it wont install I have connected it up and it powers up when i start my pc but does not appear in my computer. It is a ide cd writer so i have bought a ide/sata converter adapter (IDE to SATA Converter: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo) and connecting it this way.

Can anyone offer any help

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious, but is the SATA channel (that the CDD is connected) active/enabled in the BIOS?

Depending on the BIOS, should be on Advanced Settings, SATA or something similar. What's your system's manufacturer and make?

Okay I have just put the case back on the pc, swithched it on and the cd drive has gone again from my computer! i dont know whats wrong with it please help it is the only drive connected, no other floppy or cd drive and is set to master. please help My pc is the hp dx2400
