Default Computer freezes when DVD is shut down

For some strange reason my computer freezes when I finish watching a DVD. I can chop and change whilst the DVD is playing ( pause, forward, menus etc) but when it comes to actually hitting that stop button..the mouse reacts for about 2 seconds after and then nothing..no keyboard, no CTRL ALT delete, nothing..and its very annoying!! I then have to re-boot in order to shut the machine down and apart from the fact that its a pain, it cant be healthy.
It's not the media player ( I've got Real Player, Windows Media player and
CyberLink..I've tried un-installing them, I've tried just having one media player, I've tried VLC player, I've got the latest Realtek updates and codecs.
Also, music CD's and CD-R work fine, its just bloody DVD's...always having to re-boot can't be good for a machine eh?
Here is some tech stuff on my machine incase someone out there can help me out!!
AMD Athlon 64 processor 3000+ 1800mhz
Video card RADEON 9250

Would really appriciate help on this one guys
Cheers

Welcome to PC Help Forum James.

Can you tell me how much RAM you have
What is displayed in the event log at the time you stop the DVD
Whether you have processes running in Task Manager that are taking up your CPU %
If you have downloaded a third party codec or program
Are your soundcard drivers and graphics card drivers up to date?
Did you try a system restore?

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me. I have a gig of ram and according to the stats on Tune Up utilities, I'm only using 40% of the memory ( not a lot on my machine really, only for adobe design work)
Here is what happens when the DVD stops..I click stop, or eject, or exit at the menu..the mouse reacts for a few seconds and then it freezes in whatever position it is in on the screen. The keyboard is dead, everything is dead, all i can do is re-boot, it wont let me do anything else, no CTL ALT delete, nothing. Ive done system restore, Ive downloaded CC cleaner, the machine appart from this is in tip top condition.
Stupid question time now...is this a graphics card or sound card issue? 'cause the DVD drive is fine with music CD's, its just movies it hates!
Cheers
James

I happen to have the exact same problem. If it can help any, it not only happens when I watch DVD's, but also when I watch high resolution video files (like, if I read a DVD image on my computer, or if I watched recorded HDTV)

I also have an Athlon 64 3000+, 2.0GHz. My video card is a Radeon X1950 PRO AGP. (My complete PC stats are in my profile).

I hope this can help someone.
