Quite a while since I had cause to ask for help but here I am !!
I have lost the two Icons on "My Computer" for drives D and E. One is an IDE CD Drive and the other driven by a SATA card. In Control Panel >System>Hardware>Device Manager, Properties it tells me that Windows cannot load the driver, the driver may be corrupt or missing. I have followed the Troubleshoot but I am unable to reinstall them. I am pretty sure I don`t have the installation disks for these units, how can I fix it ?

Then please let us know what brand these drives are.

Have you tried roll back driver?In device manager?

Or uninstall these drives via device manager and reboot and let new hardware wizard reinstall them?

You might try this...

Open your Device Manager.
Click on View ... Show hidden devices

Click on and Delete (with the Delete key) any devices that have a ? or ! in front of them.
If the Device Manager has an "Other" device category, open it and Delete any devices in the "Other" category.
Now, reboot.

The reboot will force Windows to refind the deleted devices and hopefully see them for what they are.
After rebooting, give Windows time to locate and properly install the deleted devices.

Go to the Device Manager and verify that all your devices are listed correctly.

No luck yet but I have taken the two drives out and inserted another one which Belarc tells me is an HP CD writer +7200 but it is still not giving me an icon. I don`t understand Roll Back, where is this option. I have tried uninstall in Device Manager and reboot but this does not resolve it, it tells me the driver may be corrupt but when I search for a driver update nothing is found, I`m still struggling, any further advice will be appreciated.
The two drives that I have removed are a RW LG DVD and a Yamaha 6x4x16 (SATA)

Have you tried a system restore?

Are you having other problems with this machine?

No, no other issues with it, I will try a System Restore and let you know if this fixes it.

Did as you suggest but this does not bring the icon back. There are no OTHER devices to delete.
I`m stupid, I meant to describe the Yamaha CD Writer as SCSI not SATA
