I am having problems getting my DVD rom to read DVDr's

Under my computer, the rom drives show up as:

D: CD-RW drive (which is correct and functioning properly)
G: DVD drive
E: CD drive

I have only one CDR and one DVDR drive installed on this pc and that is all that has been installed since I installed the OS (windows xp pro SP2)

When I place a cdr in the DVDR drive, it works, but DVDr will not work, and it's always showing as " E: CD drive" Placing a DVD in the drive just tells me there is no disk inserted.

I tried uninstalling both the G: and E: drives in Device Manager, shut down, then let the hardware find itself again, and it still didn't solve the issue. The DVD drive was working before, but seemed to have some strange issues... (sometimes I would have to put in a dvdr and open the drive and replace it a couple times for it to work).

I have another dvdr rom drive I can install to try to fix the problem, this one is probably getting old, I just am wondering if there is some possible method of troubleshoting this I have overlooked.and I still am trying to figure out why it's showing 3 drives when I only have 2 installed.

Hello Scorpio,Try actually uninstalling ALL drivers for these drives then uninstall the drives.Reboot,this will mean you will have to reinstall drivers.
