Hi, i have a sony DRU-835A lightscribe dvd rw on my desktop that cannot read DVDs but is able to read CDs. I have tried burning DVDs and even a DL, and they are readable by other dvd readers i have on my laptop.

I read from some forums that my dvd lens may have gone bad but i went for a 1 to 1 exchange with my warranty, and its exactly the same. When dvds were inserted, either the drive shows blank, or when i inserted the DL i have burnt(it is working as mentioned, on other readers), it prompted me that i have inserted a blank disk, and asked for my action. Sometimes, when a dvd is inserted, the drive in explorer changes to CD-ROM and still, it was blank inside.

You have a lot of drivers missing.Could I have make and model of your computer or make and model of your mainboard please?I will get you the link hopefully to download all those free drivers for you.
Download and save them then use device manager to install them.

If you are not sure of make n model then go to Belarc.com and download there advisour this will give you the information we need to help you out.

Use device manager to install ALL the required drivers.

Your DVD/CD roms have drivers installed?What are you using to burn DVD/CDs with as in software?

i went Download Driver to install the 5.10 nforce drivers which includes the IDE drivers.

however, after the installation, i found out that the drivers for the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers were already the updated version of 5.10.2600.446, driver date 6/3/2004. the drive however still doesnt read dvds

i have tried this drive on my other computer with different specs and it worked fine.

im using nero essentials 7 for burning.
