Default CD/DVR..secondary IDE channel

On a HP Pavilion dv4150us running WIn XP Pro/sp2

Out of the blue when I put a DC in the D drive it won't read it...blank or not..only sees blank disk..error mgs says "i/o device error" I did every thing the Microsoft help site told me to do...Even dwonloaded a new driver..l still doesn't work...
When I used the HP diagonostic it told me " Secondary IDE channel" had a YELLOW ! over it...but in properties there was only primary channel showing...

Any helpr advice would be appreciaterd..
