Question [Answered] reading CD-R but not files

Hi

I've been backing up to Maxell CD-R. Everything seemed to be fine - out of the blue, I can no longer access the files on one of the discs used.

Vista brings up the action menu for blank CDs, rather than the choice for mixed media which I would have expected. Using Properties shows that the expected portion of the CD-R has been used (approx 500 of 700 MB), but there are no discrete files to access and Vista seems to suggest that the disc is unformatted (obviously not true).

Can anyone shed some light on this, please?

Thanks in advance!

Default [Answered] Re: reading CD-R but not files

Hello stone16, welcome to PCHF.

Did you manually check each disk after the files were written? The writing process can often end with errors which can often be mistaken as opteration complete, it's doesn't take much. If you look at the back of the disk, you can see the area of the disk which has been written to, compare this with the disks are blank.

EDIT: Marked as Answered.
