Default Drive not recognizing cd

My cd drive was working fine and suddenly stopped working.
My Computer shows I have drives C,D,E and G, but now when I put a disk in, I get the error message "Please insert a disk into drive E:" (or G: ).

I tried opening the computer and saw there were no cords attached to the back of the drive and figured they had come loose somehow. I think I reattached the correct ones.
Any way to get a picture of what it should look like?

I have tried disable/enable in the device manager but this hasn't resolved the problem.

Have a look at this pic here IM2942

Take note of the thin red line on the right hand side, that's how it should be inserted.

Welcome to the CD in CC page of the Colour Classic Compendium

The cords are inserted correctly, but it's still asking for a disk even tho there's one in there. And it is in right side up

Anything else i should try?
Thanks

Have you hit/dropped the computer at any point?

Since you unplugged, and inserted the cables again, there may be a problem with the driver software. It may have been corrupted during the cables being messed about.

I'd suggest re-installing the driver for the CD Drive. As long as the cables are correctly inserted, and the driver is working. There is no reason why it should not work.

Write back if you still have problems.

first of all see if your computer is reconizing the drive by going to the bios on initial boot up, also are you using any virtual drives eg. alcohol 120, daemon evan, nero?
