Default [Answered] CD/DVD Drives aren't recognized

I am having problems getting my CD's recognized. I go to 'My Computer', and E & F (my two CD drives) arent even on the list. I googled this problem for awhile to no avail. I am able to open and close the drives, but they cant read anything. I have tried Games, DVD's, music CD's, and blank CD's and none can be read. I am thinking there is a problem with my computer, instead of a problem connecting the CD drives, as both stopped working at the same time. Does anyone have a solution to my problem?

Thanks,
Ryan

Default Re: CD/DVD Drives aren't recognized

Hello Ryan, welcome to PCHF.

First of all, can you see if those drives appear in Device Manager.

Go to My Computer, Control Panel, System (In classic view), Hardware tab, followed by Device Manager. Look under the category of "DVD/CD-ROM drives", what do you see? And are there any devices listed in Device Manager with question or exclaimation marks against them?

If so, right click on it, and Uninstall. Right click on the item (computer name) at the top of the list and Scan for Hardware Changes.

If the device doesn't appear in Device manager, then the drive is likely to be faulty or not connected properly. Let us know.

EDIT: Marked as Answered.
