Default Had DVD sent for scratch removal but there are still probs

Hello everyone

Last week I posted a thread about a problem with one of my DVDs, it basically froze at a certain point in the episode. For some odd reason the drive couldnt read the data and so froze up. One of the forum members was kind enough to suggest sending the DVD to a scratch removal service. I recieved the disk tonight after sending it over and loaded it up. I was happy to see that when the episode got to the point where it froze when I noticed the problem it was freezing up anymore, however a few minutes later the same freezing problem re emerges.

I immiediately posted in the old thread but I realised that might be a mistake since that thread was mark resolved so its probably better if I opened a new thread. Anyways has anyone got any suggestions for possible courses of action?

I also decided to watch other episodes on the disk to see if there were any errors on those episodes. Unfortunately I found them. Prior to last week I havent watched these episodes before so this is the first time I am noticing these errors. I'd like to hope these can be fixed since I pointed out that the above mentioned freeze no longer occurs, but occurs a few minutes later on.

I am starting to think this could be DVD Rom problem, basically the computer for some reason is having trouble reading data when it should be able to. Does anyone concur?

Hi I guess one way to see if it is the drive causing the freeze would be to install a virtual DVD drive on your PC and make and ISO of the DVD and mount it on the virtual DVD drive to see if it plays correctly. Before you do that have you put a dvd head cleaner through the DVD drive and see if it works

Hi Madmatt

Unfortunately I dont have a DVD head cleaner. However I have contacted the Scratchbusters and informed them of the situation, they told me to resend the disk and they will look at it free of charge. So I suppose its best if we wait and see what happens. I've told them to contact me and inform me of the outcome and what possibly needs to be done. We will then have a better idea of what needs to be done and whether the problem is with the DVD Rom. So I think its best if we leave this thread open for the time being pending what Scratchbusters can do. They've even said they will test the playback. That might be good or bad news for the testers, that is if they are Star Trek fans or not
