Default Bios not reading DVD-RW

Hello,

I have a pc with dual drives, one is a cd-rom and the other is a dvd-rw. It came like this from dell when I ordered it. It has always aggravated me that my system bios would read my cd-rom but not dvd-rw, but I never needed to fix it until now. My dvd-rw works and is recognized in Windows but it is not listed when I go to change my boot order in bios. I need to run the windows vista dvd at start up to repair my master boot file. Any help will be appreciated.

Welcome to PC Help Forum.

Interesting. So, your DVD works fine in Windows but isn't recognised in the bios, therefore you simply can't boot. What model of Dell do you have and when was the last time you updated the system bios?

Default Re: Bios not reading DVD-RW

I have a Dell Dimension 8400 and I have updated bios last year. I checked dell's downloads the other day and they haven't updated any bios. Yea, in windows the drive works perfectly. I just need to run a Dvd at boot up to run the vista repair. Here is basically what I am trying to do. I put a linux os on my pc and dual boot with vista business. Now I want to remove the linux os and run my vista os dvd to fix the master boot file so my pc will not ask me which os I want to run. I tried running my Vista dvd in windows were my dvd-rw works but for some reason the option to repair never appears. The vista dvd just asks if I want to update windows or do a clean install. I figure it's were the dvd is ran in windows instead of start up before vista loads. Or it could be were the dvd is a burnt ISO version of Vista business that I got for being a cs major at school. Either way I still would like my dvd-rw to be read at boot up so that I can run a dvd if needed.
