Default [Resolved] Having problem with one of my DVDs.

Hello

I've got a wierd problem happening with my DVD Rom. You guys were really helpful with fixing my spyware probs, so hopefully you can help me nail this prob as well. Ok basically I bought a new DVD box set. Tonight I put in one of the DVD's that I havent previously used. Everything went fine until for some apparent reason the drive was having trouble reading the information and so the playback was stuck and I couldnt get further. I dont quite get this, its a brand new DVD so it ought to work!

I looked at the disc. There are some scratch marks but I assume they must have come from the playback of the DVD or unless the Quality control dept at the manufacturers was having a major off day! .

I have to ask that these manufacturers tend to design these DVDs to be pretty durable to the point where they can still play well even with scratches right?

Anyways I was searching for a possible explaination I came across 2 articles talking about how the ability to read information degrades if one persistenly hibernates the computer. Basically the DVD driver is set to some slower mode hence its more difficult for it to read data. At the moment I want to try and see if this is the best theory to explain my problem, because like I said even with visible scratches a DVD should be able to play fine. right? Also I have often used the hibernation mode and also I have recently noticed that the autoplay does not function. I will attach the links to the two articles. If you guys could kindly let me know how to proceed.

Thanks guys!

Hi si it the DVD box set or the DVD drive in your pc having the problem? if the device reads other DVD's with no problem you will find the sratches are causng the problem. There is a solution to this most of the time if you take the DVD to your DVD movie hire shop they will have a machine to buff the scratches out for a small fee. DVD's a very durable I had one on my car roof and forgot and drove off it fell of the roof at about 60KM's per hour and when down the tar road on it's face(the reading side) it was a real mess I took it in got I buffed and it worked perfectly

Thanks for the very prompt reply!

I think its a problem with the DVD to be honest. But to be sure I am going to insert an old DVD I bought five years ago that has some scratches and see if it works out fine. However I am very happy to consider the solution you have mentioned, its sound really promising! I didn't know that can do that to DVD's. Only slight complications are that I bought this DVD overseas from USA. Second I am London based, so if anyone knows where I can take the DVD to have the scratches buffed out I'd be happy to try out this option.

Thanks again!

Just a quick note I've found a DVD repair service where I can send the DVD to be fixed and I probably will send the disc to get the scratches removed. However please feel free to drop suggestions about the possible causes of the problem as it may be because the DVD Rom drive has gone all wonky.

Dude thanks a million! Yeah I'll see if my local Blockbusters can do DVD repairs. If not I'll try one of these scratch buster firms!
