Unhappy Oh Snap ! I got big problems

I really hope some one can help. I am a novis at this stuff. Heres
what happened. Two weeks ago I was recording some Karaoke tracks with the
help of WinAmp 5.35 and Audacity 1.2.6 stable. I have done this
for almost a year now with much success. One day on playback in Audacity,
I get a squeel in the track playback and the vocals could hardly be heared.
It sounded just like a loose wire or something like that.

I come to realise that my computer no longer recognized my 8 month old sound card (XtremeSound 7.1 by Dimond) . After that my CD/DVD was not recognizedin my computer
I tried and tried to get that sound card to work. Nothing. I installed the driver disk and it did not detect the card. Dead. OK. I used a reg hack for the CD/DVD deleting the Upper and lower filters and they did not rebuild on reboot. So, I can not re-install XP from Disk.

I went in to Device manager and saw a yellow ! next to SCSI?RAID Host Controller.
I wound up deleting the whole Icon with the Yellow !. This is a very bad problem. DVD/CD does not show in the Bios set up. Is my mother board Fried?? it is just
a cheep little emachine T2958 with a Sony CD-RW and a BenQ 1655 lightscribe DVD-RW. I need help .........

Default Re: I am in Deep Deep trouble with my registry

You might want to use the Restore Point function to set the registry back to before you modified it. Then after rebooting, use the Device Manager to update the drivers. Good Luck.

Default Re: Oh Snap ! I got big problems

Gandalf,

Thank's for the post but I can not use system restore. When I try,
I get a message that says: " J:\J after this point can not be reversed, because
the drive was either excluded from system restore monitoring or was turned off or removed. None of which is true. Something bad happened. Here's what I do know:
SCSI/RAID Host Controller is gone from Device manager.
CD/DVD is gone from My Computer.
Plug in Sound Card not recognized by computer.
Upper and Lower filters did not re-build after deletion in Registry.
(That is when CD/DVD went missing in My Computer).

How can I run a diagnostic on my Mother Board and How can I
tell the kind of mother Board I have. I.E. Serialnumber and such?

With so many devices disappearing, you might have picked up a bug. Suggest you click on the Pre-Work link in my signature area and follow the direction you find there.
