CD/DVD Rom - CD/DVD drive plays and burns dvds BUT posted in the Hardware forums; it wont read any cd's tried reinstalling drivers that didnt work i am on xp it has just started this problem in last few days tried using a laser cleaner ...

Default CD/DVD drive plays and burns dvds BUT

it wont read any cd's tried reinstalling drivers that didnt work i am on xp it has just started this problem in last few days tried using a laser cleaner too but it wouldn't even play that it just spins and sometimes clicks but you could put a dvd right in after it and it plays with no trouble

Welcome to PCHF

It sounds as if your CD laser may have gone. Try replacing the IDE cable (from the motherboard to the CD drive) inside the PC to see if it could be a faulty cable.

thx I'll give it a try when i get home that sounds better than needing to reboot my computer
