Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Both devices are useless now, I can't update the drivers either because the utilities can't see the devices...
According to MS (Explanation of error codes generated by Device Manager in Microsoft Windows XP Professional), On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard. Click Uninstall, and then click Scan for hardware changes to load a usable driver. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, and then select Last Known Good Configuration. This rolls back to the most recent successful registry configuration.

That didn't work. Any other ideas?? I don't understand how I screwed up the registry. Unless pulling that ivicd driver out of the driver folder did it. It seemed like the system loaded it in Safe Mode. Even when I put it back, it doesn't show up on the driver loading screen while Safe Mode is starting.

Holy Shnikes. Joe5's fix worked!! I think I did the right thing by removing the Intervideo program. That helped the shut down thing. Then uninstalling the devices was the next step. His fix was the third step and specifically meant for registry data that is screwed up by removing such programs. Windows found the drives and they work like magic! Thanks for your help again.

1. Did you try to go into Safe Mode without the DVDs attached?

2. Can you get into the Safe Mode without any problems now?

3. Have you reinstalled the Intervideo software?

Joe5 was amazing-- hasn't been here for a while now and still helping people.

EDIT: No offense to our current excellent staff
