Default Matshita Dvd Ram Uj-8455

good day all!

im wondering if anyone has ever encountered or could help me with my problem.

my laptop cant seem to be able to detect or read blank disc. be it CD-R/CD-RW DVD+R/DVD-R or DVD+RW/DVD-RW. so long as it's blank, it's not detectable. written disc or audio disc works fine.

each time i insert a blank disc, there wont be any autoplaying. and when i try to access the drive from My Computer, there's an error.

F: is inaccessible. incorrect function.

the driver is MATSHITA DVD RAM UJ-8455.

i have tried several fixes. but none works so far.

i've tried the fix from microsoft knowledge base You can no longer access the CD drive or the DVD drive, or you receive an error message after you remove a CD recording program or a DVD recording program in Windows XP: "error code 31"

i've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the hardware.

i've tried the sticky fix in this section too.

so if anyone is of help. i'd very much appreciate it. thanx.

You need a driver for it. Give me a little while and I will look for one.

Sorry, I cant seem to find one. Did the computer come with a driver disk? It should have.. if it did, install the driver for it from the disk. Otherwise you might need something else too, I'm not too experienced with advanced drives. I like to keep mine simple with a CD-RW and DVD-R.

hey. i have finally fixed the problem. just wanna share it with the users.

so basically, i did try changing the IDE secondary and primary drive thingy. and it didnt work. so i tried lookin at the IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service under services. it turned out that it was disabled. so i enabled it.

after that, it seemed that windows media player was able to detect the disc but wasnt able to write anything on it. (owh btw, accessing the disc drive from My Computer was still a problem).

then i looked over to this article Windows XP CD Burning Secrets and it turned out that my cd driver recording option was disabled too. thus it eventuallly led me to reading this article CD-R drive or CD-RW drive is not recognized as a recordable device

i followed the instructions in the second article and once the recording tab was accessible, i enabled the recording capability. and it solved my problem.

i can now burn CD-R as well as CD-RW. DVD-R/DVD-RW however, will require a third party software before it can be burnt. i would recommend Nero.

anyway. i'd like to thank those who helped me. very much appreciated.
