Default [Resolved] Laptop CD Drive Won't Open

I recently got a deal on a laptop that runs well, but has a few minor issues. One is that the CD tray only pops out half an inch or so when I press the button (like it's supposed to) but then won't come out any further. Even when I tug on the tray. Tried the unfolded paperclip, and the software 'eject' option from 'My Computer', but it still just pops out half an inch and refuses to be coaxed open farther.

I'll open the laptop and try to unjam it if someone can just tell me what to expect and what not to do.

If it's unfixable, I can replace the drive, but I have no idea what they cost.

where'd you get the lappy from? Sounds like something is stuck in there, and I'd just take it back to where I got it from and have them fix it. If you bought it from a second party dealer, the replacements aren't that expensive depending on the type. Who knows, you may even end up with a dvd burner.

But it sounds like something on the interior is catching on it the chassis. Just out of curiousity, have you tried the bent paper clip with the cd rom removed from the laptop?

thanks,

v

Flea market.

I'll try to open the case up and get the drive out then. Maybe they jammed a fifty dollar bill in it.

EDIT: I can't even figure out how to get the drive out. Took out all the screws I could find on the bottom of the case, even the ones hidden inside the RAM compartment, and it still won't open. Help?

shouldn't need to take any screws out, should be modular. What is the make and model of the laptop?

From memory it is the same as in this model of toshy Toshiba Satellite 2250 Service Manual free download, schematics, datasheets, eeprom bins, pcb, repair info for test equipment and electronics download the manual and have a look. It sounds like the cdrom had a bent or misalinged rail pretty easy to fix once you get the drive out

Alright, my laptop is nothing like those. Thanks for posting them! But I followed the directions as closely as I could, and I've yet to do anything but remove the battery pack and a few screws on the back labled 'K'. How do I get the keyboard out? That would be a good start, I think.
