Default No Sound When I Play My DVDS

I have an ASUS DVD/CD Rom ReWriter which plays my music CDs fine. But when I try to watch a DVD, there's no sound. Should I just invest in a DVD/CD player or is there something going on with the ASUS?

I know, I could just watch them on TV with the regular DVD player, but--my husband has control of that, and the kids are on the other TV with their games. Thought I could just watch right here, but--no. I have a new 19" LCD monitor, too, that makes movie watching wonderful.

I'll be building my new machine later this week. So, I'd like to order the new drive if that's the problem. The ASUS burns fine, plays music CDs fine, just no sound for DVD movies.

Appreciate any help anyone can give.

First thing-- any Software with the drive ? Reinstall/Check ASUS website for updates.
Check device manager-- under CD drives-- any yellow exclamation points??
If not try opening the plus sign next to the drive in Dev Mgr/properties/update driver-- see if that works.

Are you using a different program to watch your DVDs from the one you are using for CDs it could simply be the volume settings in the application.
