Default After installing XP SP2 dvd-rw will not play cd/dvds

Hi

I recently installed xp sp2 since then my dvd-rw drive is not working, it wont play cds/dvds or run game/program disks. when I look in windows explorer nothing is listed. the window is empty.
OS windows XP Pro Sp2
AMD Athlon xp 2800+
2G Ram
Nvidia Geforce 7600 GS 512 MB
Emprex DVD-RW IDE 16X A019

I tried the sticky thread "Restore CD/DVD Drives to Explorer (winXP"
XP_CD-DVD-Fix and the regedit advice, nothing seems to work.

How about uninstalling the driver then reboot. Windows should detect the "unknown" device and automatically install fresh drivers because sometimes Windows doesn't install all the drivers correctly. Give it a try.

Same with mine.... How about changing your Secondary IDE Controller to DMA Mode for Device X (Where x is the location of your drive. Either 0, which is first, or 1, which is second). If that doesn't work, mess around with your BIOS a little bit. If you make a mistake, you can always restore your BIOS to its default settings. Give that a try.

Do you have 2 drives? If you do, set them both to DMA If Available mode and see if that works. I'm still working on mine with no success. Thinking about getting Firmware update 1.29.....
