Default [Fixed] DVD RW Drive won't write to DVD

My DVD RW drive won't burn files to a DVD. I've burned data and audio CDs just fine with the drive but I can't burn data to DVDs. I tried using Nero and it would get halfway done and then fail. This happened 4 times. Also, when there is no disc in the drive My Computer shows the drive with the label "DVD-RW Drive (E)" but with a blank DVD in the drive it shows as "CD Drive (E)". Does anyone have any ideas?

Hey Greg,

My welcome to PCHF. I have a few extra questions which may help us to pin down the cause of the problem;

Is this something that happened all of a sudden?
Were you previously able to burn DVDs?
What specifically are you trying to burn?
Have you checked for malware, especially if this happend suddenly?
Have you recently changed brands of blank DVDs?
Have you tried any other programs?
Have you cleaned the DVD drive?
In Device Manager, doees the DVD player show that it is working properly?
Is your PC completely updated, and have you checked the manufacterer to see if there is a more updated driver?
Have you uninstalled and reinstalled the player?

If you would like to rule out malware as a culprit, please follow the instructions for PreWork in my signature. Post back with the resulting three logs.

Looking forward to your reply,

TTFN
