Default dvd rw driver stopped working?

i have had this computer under a year maybe less than 6 months, and when i first got it the dvd burner worked fine its a (HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA-4164B) umm it recognized discs, burned discs etc... but the other day i put in a blank dvd to burn some shows and it didnt come up as recognized... so when i went into the device manager it had a "!" next to it and said "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" so i went to troubleshooting, it didn't find any updates or anything, nothing worked, like uninstall reinstall didnt either, i took the case of the computer to make sure nothing was loose/unplugged - didn't see anything, to the best of my knowledge i don't have a virus (up to date antiviruses etc). the only 2 things that i think may be of importance is i downloaded a trial of Windows LiveOne Care, and thats been messing with my ability to save microsoft office word files (office 03) so maybe its screwing with this as well... also, about 15 days ago i had wireless installed... and the devices are 'NetComm NP5420 - 11G Wireless PCI card" and also "SiS 900-Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter" (i believe this is the only things installed) - so i don't know if that may have made a difference or anything? i think that is all the information i can give? does anyone please possibly know how to help?

Welcome to the PCHF ashletina

Can you tell me what software you're trying to burn the dvd/cd with?
If it's Easy CD Creator - check out this link - CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error code 31, code 32, code 19, code 39, or code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP
If not...let me know

So is the drive being detected by windows at all?

Look in My Computer for it

Sorry, i meant for you to just look in "My Computer"...not in Device Manager.

Is the CD drive accessable via any part of windows?
