Default 80 wire versus 40 wire Data Cables for CD/DVD drives

Hi all, for quite a while 80 wire Data cables have been mandatory for Hard Drives, while more recently, i believe that it is recomended, to use 80 wire Data cables for high speed DVD/CD drives.

My query is thus: is there anything to gain/loose in using 80 wire data cables on BOG STANDARD DVD/CD drives, particularly those that ONLY read, don't write.?.

Does anyone know what speed Writable DVD/CD drives must reach that makes it advantageuos to use the 80 wire cables ?.

Gee i hope that makes sense !

tim.

I don't see how you'd lose any performance... it would only use the wires it needs. I have never had an issue Except with a very long flat IDE cable (3 ft) those signals just don't go far.

Want some good quality round cablea @ great prices? (improves air-flow and therefore cooling. Plus they are a lot easier to manipulate/keep neat.
