Default CD-ROM crashes PC

Hi, I’ve just built my latest PC using an AsRock 775 motherboard. Everything is running cool and quick, except for my 2 CD drives! The CD-writer (master) won’t load anything at all (even crashed the PC sometimes) and my DVD drive only loads a very selective number of programs. The machine build was fine and the CD-writer was used to load up windows XP no problem. Both drives are connected using the board through IDE.

Trying to load my sons Star Wars Battlefront game caused the PC to give a memory error and then freeze. Not had this message before or since.

Loading service pack 2 was instant with no problems at all

Loading nvidia display drivers caused the PC to freeze.

I suspect a bios problem but not sure where to start...

Thanks

Adrian

Hi and welcome to PCHF

We will need to know which motherboard you have from this list: ASRock Motherboard - Product List - use the "What's inside your PC" link below if neccessary.

SORTED!! Finally found the answer by searching through google. My initial build did not set the CD-ROM to DMA auto. Was set to PIO?!. Now changed, now working.
