Default NEWBIE dvd installation help!

Hi I have a standard Philips CDRW5232P1 that I currently use to burn my cd's (mainly audio). i would like to burn DVD's and have just bought a NEC DVDRW 18x.

I would like to keep my CDRW as it has a faster burning speed, so would it be ok to set the CDRW as the MASTER and put the DVDRW on the SLAVE on the same IDE?

Also by putting the peripheral on the SLAVE does this have an effect of it performance?

Thanks

Dale

Hi gb47

Welcome to PC Help forums

Well you could put the dvd burner as primary slave on the same ide as the hdd.
Set you cd burner as Secondary master on the, obviously, second ide cable.

what difference would that make than haveing the CDRW and the DVDRW on the same IDE cable (CDRW master and DVDRW slave)?

Thanks

The crux of this is which do you want to burn the fastest, the cdrw or the dvdrw?
You say you have a wicked burning speed on the cd so why bother it with requests from/to, (if you choose this scenario) the dvdrw to the cpu?
The cdrw as a stand alone device on ide two would, in my opinion, be better than having the dvd involved.
