i have an old gateway laptop that i use mostly for music at work and tuning the ecu in my car. it will play mp3 cd's just fine but it will play one song on a regular cd and then the program will stop responding. i have tried both windows media player and winamp with the same results.

my attempts at fixing it were, restarting, running virus scan, ad aware scan, deleteing all uneeded programs (pics ect) scan disk and a defragment. any ideas?

It is most likely due to the fact that it is an older laptop, and the laser of the cd drive is dying slowly, or the cd you're trying to play is a bit too dirty

that makes sence. too bad there is no fix for it. too bad laptop parts arent universal like desktop parts
