I can play most of my games in my DVDRW combi drive, but there is a couple that wont run, is the just a case of buying a standalone DVD-ROM drive. any help. Thanks.

First impressions I get, are that your games should be working if others do.

When you put one of the troublesome ones in:
Does the drive recognise there is a disk in?
If so, can you open the disk?
What are the games you're having trouble with?

Its just far cry, its like it dosen't know its there, it don't even start up as if it cant read it, I changed the disk for a new one but its still the same. If I go in to my computer the DVD sign just shows as normal like there is nothing in there, and also if I double click it it makes my computer stop responding.

Hi, did you try the disc (Far Cry) in another PC ?

Yes i did it seemed to work fine. Is it just a case of my DVD drive and the game not being compatable,

If you have any of the following drives - you're right, it's incompatiable...

Pan International CyberDrive 240:
Once a bad sector is read, all following reads are returned as bad and the game
disc will not play correctly.

ASUS CD-S400:
On Windows 9X, when the DMA option is selected for this CD Drive, the drive
freezes during CD initialization. To allow the game to play successfully from
this drive, disable the DMA option for the drive and reboot the system. Consult
your operating system help files for instructions on turning off the DMA
setting.

Matsushita CR-581-B:
On Windows NT 4, initialization may fail and the game may not play. Windows 9x,
Windows 2000 and Windows XP work correctly.

Philips CDD2000:
The game is incompatible with this drive.

LG GDR-8161B:
The game is incompatible with this DVD drive.

Toshiba HL-DT-STDVD-ROM GDR-8081N ( Sep 2002 Laptop drive):
The game is incompatible with this DVD drive.

LG HL-DT-STDVDRAM GMA-4020B Apr 2003 IDE ( internal drive):
The game has known intermittent problems with this drive. Most of the time it
does work but on occasion the game will fail to start.

I have a BTC DVDRW drive, its not on that list but it may just have something of one of those with another name, anyway thanks for you help.
