Default Restore CD/DVD Drives to Explorer (winXP)

Restore CD/DVD Drives to Explorer:

Download XP_CD-DVD-Fix.zip and save this file to your hard drive. Navigate to where you saved it and double click the file to extract the contents. Locate the EXE file you extracted and double click it. A confirmation dialog will appear when the script is done. You may need to reboot for the change to take effect.

This utility is only intended for Windows? XP. You may need Administrator level access to use this utility. If you do not have Administrator level access, the program will say it is finished, but will not have made any changes.

Hi joe5,

I tried the xp cd-dvd fix, and it didn't change or fix the drive. I noticed that when I went under my floppy drive, my cd-dvd drive was there. I am wondering why?

is there another tool I can use to fix my cd-dvd, when I check properties, it says that my system is unable to run the device, becuase it is damaged or corrupted in my registry.

Thank You

Potatopiee67

Give this a try:

1. Click on START button, the click on RUN
2. Enter REGEDIT and press enter
3. When REGEDIT starts, open up the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
Class
{4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

4. After clicking on {4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} you should see two settings on the right-hand side:

"Upperfilters"
"Lowerfilters"

Rightclick on each of them, press DELETE and click YES.

Then close REGEDIT, shutdown & restart your PC

I am having the same problem, but there is no answer to fix the problem. Is it software related or hardware related? Does anyone know? Or have I wasted my time on another dead end web site? I think so... Correct me if I'm wrong.
James

EDIT: Answer: Yes you are, now would you like to seek an answer or find another dead end website?
