ok i tried different dvddrives with still no joy

any other suggestions?

Hi madrab,

Are you saying that you have tried a different DVD Rom drive and it still doesn't work?

yeah i tried an LG and a sony, and combinations of both & my original

Some more things to try:

1) By changing the jumpers on the back of the cdrom and dvdrom, make the dvd master and the CD-rw Slave.

2) Try another IDE cable - a new one if possible

i tried the first one with no luck, but i will try a new cable tonight to see if that works

Coul you tell me your IDE config and if you have more than one IDE controller (likely) try using both drives as masters on each IDE controller.
