Default [Answered] problem with new dvd writer

Hi,

I bought a DVD-Writer today and am having a problem installing it. I did have 2 disk drives (cd-rom and cd-rw), so unplugged the PC, disconnected the cd-rom (slave) and connected dvd-writer. I turned on the PC, it booted in fine first time, but didn't detect the dvd-r. I switched off, unplgged and checked the connections. All were fine, so I switched back on and the real probs started.
On boot-up it won't detect anything when the IDE cable is connected to either disk drive (even when I put the old cd-rom back in using the old set-up exactly), and when IDE cable is in it cuts off the power to the disk drives. If I unplug the IDE cable but leave the power supply in the drives, they seem to work fine, except they aren't connected (but drawer opens, lights flash, etc., but no real help to anyone!) and the PC boots in and runs as normal.

Anybody got any ideas? I've tried all combinations of slave and master, but to no avail.

Thanks.

You can try taking them back out and taking the jumpers off them both..This way you dont have to mess with reseting them.. The jumper's will be a little black plastic piece covering 2 little pins.. usually on the left hand side.
