Default [Resolved] Dvd player error yet cd player's fine

I just built a computer and everything went together great except for a dvd player problem. When I'd put a cd into my cd-rom it would play fine, but if I but a cd in the dvd player it would not play. Same thing when trying to play a movie(using powerdvd/media player), the player would play either the first couple scenes or simply not play at all, sometimes even causing the computer to freeze. I reinstalled powerdvd, I verified the jumpers for slave/master, I tried a new drive, and I verifed everything was running fine in device manager.

I was about to try updating the BIOS then the chipset drivers believing it may be some type of problem with compatibility or ide controllers because of an error windows event viewer gave me:

"The driver detected a controller error on \Device\CdRom3"

But I tried one last thing, switching the dvd drive to slave and setting the cd-rom drive to master. After this the player works fine. I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight into what may have caused the problems with the old master/slave setup because I'm completely clueless.

Also the cd-burner is a Lite-on SOHR-5239S and the dvd-burner is a sony dru-720A.

Thanks for the help!

That is a strange problem because I normally set the DVD to master as it has always worked better that way.

Did you have both drives connected up when you installed windows?

Alternatively you could connect the CD-ROM to the same IDE cable as the hard drive (set CD-ROM to slave) and try run the DVD as master on its own cable. (just to troubleshoot)
