You might have tried this but put your working drive into the machine, set as master, and on a new IDE cable.. Take the IDE cable from your working machine

no joy zimbo

as a little update:
on >my< compute, itr seems to work fine when audio is muted, there is no stuttering in video files (havent tried games yet), and my usb drive transfers fine when no audio is being played, my audio is onboard as i mentioned, so some kind of graphic/audio sync problem?? I found out the exact mobo type, its an Asus a7v266-e. The latest drivers for the board are installed already, any ideas folks?

(little side question here; will a sata150 hdd work on the above motherboard ok? and on the same ide cable as an ata100 hdd? and do you have to have a mobo which supports sata150 or will it just run at 100?)

thanks

Hello everyone.
Unfortunately the original problem with the CD drive is a hard one to diagnos without a few more questions answered...but that's not going to happen anytime soon unfortunately.

In regards to the question
(little side question here; will a sata150 hdd work on the above motherboard ok? and on the same ide cable as an ata100 hdd? and do you have to have a mobo which supports sata150 or will it just run at 100?)
...a SATA drive will not work with an IDE cable...they are completely different interfaces.
You need a motherboard which supports SATA firstly. And the way SATA is designed, you can only get 1 drive per channel.

Marked as Answered.
