Default [Answered] DVD Rom tray will not stay closed!!!URGENT

My DVD drive just suddenly stared acting up. I was just installing a new video editing program and when the time came to insert the second disc I closed the tray and now it keeps opening again after a couple of seconds ( even when empty ). It will only close when I restart my pc with the tray open ( but not when I shut down ) and even after restarting although it stays closed it does not detect any media in the drive.

Tried uninstalling hardware restarting but its like it can't see the disc?

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like one of 2 things to me.

1) Either you have something stuck in the drive or the button on the front is stuck down

2) The drive could be faulty

What make and model number drive do you have?

Samsung have a live firmware update service for all of their optical drives. Theinformation and download links are here: http://www.samsungodd.com/eng/LiveUpdate/LiveUpdate.asp

Updating the firmware may fix your problem.

Just an idea, is there any way for a virus to be on his computer that is forcing it open, I know that there are hacks in web pages that do that.

I can't see it being related to a virus, just sounds like a faulty CD-ROM drive to me. Try update the firmware as suggested by Hengis and we can take it from there.

If you can borrow another drive from a mate and test it in your machine that would be great.
