Default [Answered] Wires in a case

I don't really know what these two wires are for, but they link to CD drive digital connector to my soundcard. My uncle told me they'll for some digital music thing. Can I like just remove them? They are very hard to disconnect and wipe clean and the "structure of wires" looks weird because of it. What do they actually do for the machine.

By the way, I get no sound from the headphone connector on the CD drive. Thanks.

Sorry, but I've got two CD drives, not two wires connecting to the same drive. Sorry for any confusion caused.

hehe ok...but you could have just edited your original post instead of replying to yourself

If you don't need to use your headphones socket in the Cd player then you don't need the digital cable. Modern PCs use digital audio extraction making the PC read the digital data directly from the drive, then it converts it to analogue if neccessary.

The funny thing is, no sound comes out of those connectors when I plug in the headphones, oh well, time to get rid of those damn wires.

Am damn confused about this, but do know that on my computer, i use those wires to play audio cds and that to begin with whenever i rebuild my machine there is no sound that comes out because my sound software automatically mutes the digital cd sound input, this might be why you can't hear anything
