Solved: Toshiba CD/DVD burner replacement

My DVD burner on my Toshiba-S331 model M45-01R001 has a CD burner/CD drive that has stopped working. I am guessing I have to replace it, but the only place I find replacement parts has a price of $228-$288.

Surely, there is a CD/DVD drive that will fit this PC for under $100?

I cannot get the PC to boot to the hard drive and since the CD drive does not work and cannot reinstall windows (another thread). Figured I might just replace the CD drive... not for that much money.

Thoughts?

I agree with Jelly Bean.

I'm sure you can find something suitable for far less money on eBay and as a regular user I can tell you that I've found some very good deals and not had any problems.

As an example I ran across a site where the place specializes in laptop parts and there are some for your unit... Toshiba M45 DVD/RW + CD/RW Multi Burner Drive UJ-841 - eBay (item 270306375046 end time Nov-28-08 09:03:14 PST)

There's a link on that page for the seller's store where much more can be found and if you are uncertain there is also a link on the ebay page where you can ask the seller a question which comes in handy if you want to make sure you are looking at the correct part.

The most important thing with eBay is don't bid if you are uncertain as you have to ask all the questions in advance.
