ok so i need some help...one day my computer just decided to stop reading my dvd burner as a dvd burner....instead its read as a cd burner , therefore not letting me burn any dvds using nero and other burning applications. Burning has worked for me before but has randomly stopped working. Ive tried vista and xp but none seem to make a difference. All my conections are properly connected and set to the right value(i.e. primary, secondary) but it just wont let me burn dvds.

can anyone help!!???

This may work for you.

Many third-party programs that control CD or DVD burning (as well as some player applications) install CD- or DVD-ROM filter device drivers into Windows.

These filter drivers are meant to allow for low-level hooks into the hardware, to allow for functions such as packet writing (where a CD-R/W or DVD-/+RW can be written incrementally, like a hard disk).

Delete the offending keys, open the Windows Registry and navigate to: Delete the keys named UpperFilters and LowerFilters and reboot.

thanks Arctos for the help i really appreciate it. although it did not work for me. i know its not my dvd drive because i bought a new one and the same thing happens, but do you think there could be something wrong with another piece of hardware in my computer? thanks again!

i downloaded the fix, but still no luck. in my computer(since i am running windows xp) once i click on the dvd drive the details show on the left navigation pane. the name of the drive is DVD-RAM DRIVE (F: ) and under that it says CD Drive....and yes it can read dvd's
